The purpose of Massachusetts Choose Life is to create a specialty license plate with the slogan "Choose Life." Proceeds from this plate will benefit maternity homes and pregnancy resource centers who offer adoption as an alternative to abortion.

"... a lack of respect for or understanding of adoption which seems to be prevalent in recent years, and has caused many women and their counselors to shun it as an alternative to abortion. This feeling, together with both the abortion toll and the fact that it is more socially acceptable to be an unwed mother, has resulted in a decreased number of infants available for adoption."

"Lately, there is encouraging evidence of some success in the promotion of adoption. In 1994, the state of Massachusetts reported a 100% increase in the number of children (of all ages) placed for adoption when compared to 1992. In 1994 and 1995, children (of all ages) were placed at the rate of over 1000 per year. Around the country, various programs have recently demonstrated progress in increasing the rate of adoptions."

Funds generated by Massachusetts' Choose Life specialty license plate will assist women with the expenses of a full term pregnancy-such as medical bills, temporary housing, transportation, utility bills, food, maternity clothing, and similar expenses of infants-until placed with an adoptive family. Funds will be distributed to qualified not-for-profit agencies within Massachusetts.
